DOCTRINAL STATEMENT of Calvary Baptist Church

Biblical Authority

The Bible is our sole authority of our faith and practice (II Timothy 3:16).

Autonomy of the Local Church

We are a self-governing, self-supporting local church (I Corinthians 6:1-4; I Timothy 3:15).

Priesthood of the Believer

Every born-again believer has personal access to the throne of God through the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:14-16).

Two Church Officers

The Pastor and the Deacons function as servant leaders in the local church (I Timothy 3:1-13).  The role of the pastor is to lead and guide the congregation, as well as preach and teach the Bible. (I Peter 5:1-4).  The role of the deacons is to primarily attend to the physical needs and concerns of the church membership (Acts 6:1-7).

Individual Soul Liberty

Every born-again believer is answerable before God for the choices he or she makes. However, this does not override the duty of a local church to exercise church discipline of its members, when required (Romans 14:1-12; I Corinthians 5:1-13).

Separation of Church and State

The state should have no power to intervene in the free expression of religious liberty (Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:29–31; Romans 13:1–4).

Two Church Ordinances

Baptism by immersion (Acts 2:41; 8:36-39) and the Lord's Table (I Corinthians 11:20-30) are the ordinances of the local church.  These ordinances have no part in salvation and only serve as pictures of what Christ did for us.

Security of the Believer

Once a person is truly saved, he or she is eternally secure. The Holy Spirit securely seals every justified believer until final glorification (John 10:27-29; Ephesian 1:13-14).
